The Lexical Interference Vector
Apple engineered the iOS keyboard with a highly aggressive machine-learning algorithm designed to proactively anticipate your keystrokes and automatically replace misspelled words. However, if you frequently type in multiple languages, use complex medical or legal terminology, or utilize colloquial slang, the auto-correction engine becomes a massive liability. It will forcefully change correct technical terms into common, irrelevant words exactly as you press the spacebar, forcing you to constantly backspace and manually override the algorithm.
How to Turn Off Auto-Correction
To type with absolute precision, you must sever the algorithmic intervention layer from the primary keyboard input matrix.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on General (it features a grey icon with a white gear).
3. Scroll down the General menu until you locate Keyboard. Tap it.
4. You are now in the primary text-input configuration matrix. Look at the section titled “All Keyboards.”
5. Locate the toggle switch explicitly labelled Auto-Correction.
6. Tap the toggle to switch it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey).
The Operational Reality: The operating system will immediately cease replacing your words. Crucially, this does not disable spell check. If you type a word incorrectly, the system will still underline it in red, allowing you to manually tap the word to see suggested fixes. You retain the safety net of spell check without suffering the forced, algorithmic overrides.
