Why Does Safari Constantly Ask for Location Access?
Many modern websites, including online retailers, search engines, and news portals, attempt to access your physical location to provide localized content or targeted advertisements. Whenever a website requests this data, macOS Safari triggers a pop-up alert asking if you want to allow or deny the request.
If you prioritize your privacy or simply find these constant pop-up interruptions annoying, you can configure Safari to automatically deny all location requests without ever asking you.
How to Disable Location Prompts in Safari on macOS
You can manage website permissions directly within the Safari preferences menu to silence these requests permanently.
- Open the Safari browser on your Mac.
- In the menu bar at the top of your screen, click on Safari.
- Select Settings… from the dropdown menu (or press
Command + ,). - Click on the Websites tab at the top of the Settings window.
- In the left-hand sidebar, scroll down and click on Location.
- Look at the main panel on the right. You will see a list of currently open websites and any sites you have previously granted or denied access to.
- At the very bottom right corner of the window, look for the dropdown menu labelled When visiting other websites:.
- Click the dropdown and change the setting from “Ask” to Deny.
From this point forward, whenever a new website attempts to pinpoint your location, Safari will instantly block the request in the background. You will no longer see the intrusive pop-up, and your browsing experience will remain uninterrupted.
