Why Disable Autoplay in the Apple TV App?
The Apple TV app on macOS is designed to highlight new content, and by default, it will automatically start playing video trailers and previews with sound as you browse the “Watch Now” tab. This sudden audio and video playback can be disruptive, especially if you are working in a quiet environment, listening to music, or trying to conserve battery life on your MacBook.

How to Turn Off Video Autoplay in Apple TV for Mac
Disabling the automatic playback of trailers only takes a few seconds.
- Open the Apple TV app on your Mac.
- In the menu bar at the very top of your screen, click on TV.
- Select Settings… from the dropdown menu (or press
Command + ,on your keyboard). - Click on the Playback tab at the top of the Settings window.
- Locate the section labelled Autoplay.
- Uncheck the box next to Autoplay video previews.
- Close the Settings window.
The changes take effect immediately. As you browse through the TV app, movie and show banners will remain static, and trailers will only play when you explicitly click on them.
This simple adjustment creates a much more peaceful browsing experience and ensures you won’t be caught off guard by loud, unexpected video previews.
