Every time you log into a new website, Microsoft Edge intercepts the form submission and automatically displays a pop-up dialog box in the top-right corner of the window, aggressively asking if you want to save your username and password to the browser’s built-in credential manager.
While Edge’s built-in password manager is convenient, it is far less secure and far less versatile than dedicated third-party password managers like Bitwarden, 1Password, or Dashlane. If you already use a dedicated password manager extension, having Edge constantly interrupt your workflow to offer its own redundant password-saving service is incredibly frustrating.
You can completely disable Edge’s password prompt to ensure it never asks to save a credential again.
How to Turn Off Password Save Prompts in Edge
You must dive into the Profiles section to disable the built-in password manager.
- Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
- Click the three horizontal dots in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Profiles.
- Under the “Your profile” section, click on Passwords.
- At the very top of the Passwords page, locate the toggle switch labeled Offer to save passwords.
- Turn this toggle to the Off position.
Microsoft Edge will immediately stop intercepting your login attempts. You will never see the “Save Password?” pop-up again, allowing your dedicated third-party password manager extension to handle your credentials without interference.
