If you need to check the warranty status of your Apple Magic Keyboard, initiate a repair request, or verify its authenticity, you will need its unique serial number. Unlike larger Apple devices, the serial number on accessories can be difficult to locate due to their minimalist design. Fortunately, there are multiple ways to find the serial number of your Magic Keyboard, whether you have the physical device in hand or just the computer it is paired with.
Method 1: Locating the Serial Number on the Keyboard Itself
The most direct way to find the serial number is to inspect the physical hardware. Apple prints the serial number directly on the device, though the location varies depending on the specific model of Magic Keyboard you own.
Standard Magic Keyboard and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID
For standalone Magic Keyboards (both with and without the numeric keypad):
- Turn the keyboard over so the bottom surface is facing up.
- Look closely at the bottom edge (the edge closest to you when typing).
- The serial number is printed in very small, faint text alongside other regulatory markings. You may need to angle the keyboard under a bright light or use a magnifying glass to read it clearly. It is typically located near the centre or towards the left side of the bottom edge.
Magic Keyboard for iPad
If you own the folio-style Magic Keyboard designed for the iPad Pro or iPad Air:
- Open the Magic Keyboard folio.
- Examine the interior surface of the back panel (the part that magnetically attaches to the back of the iPad).
- The serial number is printed in small text near the bottom edge of this magnetic panel, just above the hinge.
Method 2: Finding the Serial Number via macOS System Information
If the physical text has rubbed off, is too difficult to read, or you do not want to flip the keyboard over, you can retrieve the serial number directly from the Mac it is currently connected to.
- Ensure your Magic Keyboard is turned on and connected to your Mac via Bluetooth or the Lightning cable.
- Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Hold down the Option (⌥) key on your keyboard. The “About This Mac” option will change to System Information. Click it.
- In the left-hand sidebar of the System Information window, scroll down to the Hardware section and click on Bluetooth (if connected wirelessly) or USB (if connected via cable).
- In the main pane, locate your Magic Keyboard in the list of connected devices.
- Select it, and look for the Serial Number listed in the device details below.
Method 3: Checking the Original Packaging or Receipt
If you no longer have access to the keyboard or it will not power on, you can still find the serial number if you kept the original box. Apple prints the serial number on a barcode sticker affixed to the outside of the retail packaging.
Additionally, if you purchased the Magic Keyboard directly from an Apple Store (physical or online), the serial number is almost always printed on your original receipt or email invoice.
