The Weekly Interruption
macOS includes a robust “Screen Time” feature ported over from iOS, designed to monitor your application usage and help you maintain a healthy digital life. By default, this feature is configured to compile your usage data and present a comprehensive “Weekly Report” notification every Sunday morning. While some users find this data insightful, others find the sudden pop-up detailing exactly how many hours they spent staring at spreadsheets or browsing social media to be an unnecessary, anxiety-inducing intrusion on their weekend downtime.
Silencing the Screen Time Alerts
If you still want Screen Time to quietly track your usage in the background so you can check it manually, but you want to stop the automated Sunday morning notifications, you must disable the specific alert permission within the Notifications centre.
Open the System Settings app by clicking the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen. Scroll down the left-hand navigation pane and select Notifications. In the main window on the right, scroll through your list of applications until you locate Screen Time. Click on it to open its specific permission settings. At the very top, you will see a master toggle switch labelled Allow notifications. Click this toggle to turn it Off. The change takes effect immediately. Screen Time will continue to log your data in the background, but it will never again interrupt your workflow (or your weekend) with an automated usage report popup.
