How to Disable the ‘Hot Corners’ Feature Using Terminal in macOS

The Accidental Trigger

macOS features a productivity tool known as “Hot Corners,” which allows you to trigger specific system actions—such as starting a screensaver, showing the desktop, or locking the screen—simply by flicking your mouse cursor into one of the four corners of your display. While some users find this helpful, others find it incredibly frustrating. If you frequently use full-screen applications, play games, or work on multiple monitors, it is very easy to accidentally throw your mouse into a corner and trigger an unintended disruption.

Disabling via Terminal

While you can normally disable this via the System Settings GUI, managing these settings across multiple Mac deployments or restoring your preferred configuration after a fresh installation is much faster using Terminal commands. You can systematically write default values to the dock daemon to clear all four corners simultaneously.

Open the Terminal application. You must execute four separate commands to clear the top-left, top-right, bottom-left, and bottom-right corners. Copy and paste the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:

defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-tl-modifier -int 0
defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-tr-modifier -int 0
defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-bl-modifier -int 0
defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-br-modifier -int 0

Finally, restart the dock daemon to apply the new blank configuration by typing killall Dock and pressing Enter. Your Hot Corners are now completely deactivated.
