Typing out long, complicated Wi-Fi passwords is frustrating. Fortunately, if you use an iPhone and an iPad, Apple has built a seamless way to share Wi-Fi credentials between devices without needing to reveal the actual password.
Requirements for Sharing Wi-Fi Passwords
Before you begin, ensure both your iPhone and iPad meet the following requirements:
- Both devices must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
- Personal Hotspot must be disabled on both devices.
- Both devices must be signed in to iCloud with their respective Apple IDs.
- Each person’s Apple ID email address must be saved in the other person’s Contacts app.
- Both devices must be physically close to each other.
How to Share the Password
1. Make sure your iPhone is unlocked and already connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to share.
2. On the iPad, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the name of the network you want to join.
3. Bring your iPhone close to the iPad.
4. An animation will appear on your iPhone screen asking if you want to share the Wi-Fi password. Tap Share Password.
5. The password will be securely transmitted, and your iPad will connect to the network. Tap Done on your iPhone.
This process works across almost all Apple devices, including MacBooks, as long as the iCloud and Contact requirements are met.
