How to Set a Custom Lock Screen Message on an iPad

If you accidentally leave your iPad in a coffee shop or classroom, a lock screen message with your contact information is the fastest way for a Good Samaritan to return it to you.

How to Add a Lock Screen Message

  1. Apple doesn’t offer a direct “message” setting on iPads, but you can add text to your wallpaper.
  2. Open the Notes app and type a message like: “If found, please call 555-0199”.
  3. Take a screenshot of the note.
  4. Go to Settings > Wallpaper and set that screenshot as your Lock Screen.
