How to Disable the Night Shift Feature on an iPad

Staring at a bright, blue-light-emitting screen late at night can severely disrupt your circadian rhythm, making it difficult to fall asleep. To combat this, Apple introduced “Night Shift” for the iPad. When activated, Night Shift automatically shifts the colours of your display to the warmer end of the spectrum (making everything look slightly orange or yellow) after sunset. While scientifically beneficial for sleep, this heavy colour tinting ruins the colour accuracy of the screen. If you are a digital artist editing photos, watching a visually stunning movie, or simply dislike the yellow tint, you can turn Night Shift off.

How to Disable Night Shift

You can turn off this display feature from the main iPadOS settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Scroll down the left-hand sidebar menu and tap on Display & Brightness.
  3. In the main panel on the right, look for the “Brightness” section.
  4. Tap on Night Shift.
  5. You will see two toggle switches: “Scheduled” and “Manually Enable Until Tomorrow.”
  6. Tap the Scheduled switch to move it to the Off position (the green background will turn to grey).
  7. Ensure the “Manually Enable” switch is also Off.

Your iPad screen will immediately return to its crisp, colour-accurate, cool white temperature. It will no longer automatically turn yellow when the sun goes down, giving you consistent colour reproduction 24 hours a day.
