How to Check the Battery Health Cycle Count on an iPad

Unlike the iPhone, which has featured a prominent “Battery Health” percentage in its settings menu for years, the iPad has historically hidden this information from its users. If your iPad’s battery life is draining unusually fast, knowing your exact battery cycle count and maximum capacity is crucial for determining if it is time for a replacement.

Fortunately, Apple has finally started making this data accessible. The method you use to check your iPad’s battery health depends entirely on which model you own.

Method 1: The New Way (For M-Series iPads on iPadOS 17.5+)

If you own one of Apple’s newest iPads and have updated to at least iPadOS 17.5, you no longer need to jump through hoops. Apple has finally brought the iPhone’s Battery Health menu directly to the iPad interface.

This method currently only works on:

  • iPad Pro (M4 chip or newer)
  • iPad Air (M2 chip or newer)

How to check it:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Battery in the left sidebar.
  3. Tap on Battery Health.

Here, you will see a clear screen displaying your Maximum Capacity (e.g., 95%) and your exact Cycle Count. A standard iPad battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles.

Method 2: The Old Way (For Older iPads)

If you own an older iPad (like a 9th Gen standard iPad, an older iPad mini, or an M1 iPad Pro), the “Battery Health” menu does not exist. However, the iPad still records this data in its hidden system analytics logs. You just have to extract it manually.

Step 1: Ensure Analytics are Enabled

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Analytics & Improvements.
  3. Ensure Share iPad Analytics is toggled ON. (Note: If you just turned this on today, you must wait 24 to 48 hours for the iPad to generate the necessary log file before proceeding to Step 2).

Step 2: Find and Search the Log File

  1. In that same Analytics & Improvements menu, tap on Analytics Data.
  2. You will see a massive, alphabetical list of system files. Scroll down to the files that begin with Analytics- (or log-aggregated- on older versions of iPadOS).
  3. Tap the file with the most recent date (e.g., Analytics-2026-08-09...).
  4. A screen full of code will appear. Do not try to read this here. Tap the Share icon in the top right corner and save the text to the Notes app.
  5. Open the Notes app and open the note you just created.
  6. Tap the three dots (More icon) at the top of the Note and select Find in Note.
  7. Type MaximumCapacityPercent to find your battery health percentage.
  8. Clear the search box and type CycleCount to find the exact number of charge cycles your battery has gone through.

Method 3: Use a Third-Party App (Mac/PC Required)

If parsing through lines of code on your iPad seems too tedious, you can use a desktop computer to read the battery controller chip directly.

If you have a Mac, download the free utility coconutBattery. If you use a Windows PC, download iMazing (the free trial version is sufficient for this).

  1. Open the application on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPad to the computer using a USB-C or Lightning cable.
  3. Unlock your iPad and tap “Trust This Computer” if prompted.

The application will instantly display a clean graphical dashboard showing your iPad’s Design Capacity (what the battery had when it was brand new), its Current Capacity (your battery health percentage), and the exact Cycle Count.
