How to Hide the IP Address on iPhone

The Fingerprint Vector

Whenever you connect to a website, your device must broadcast its unique IP address so the server knows exactly where to send the data back. While essential for basic networking, advertising networks and data brokers aggressively weaponize this requirement. They harvest your IP address and use it to cross-reference your identity, tracking your movements across disparate, unrelated websites to build a comprehensive profile of your digital life. This allows them to serve highly targeted, often invasive advertisements.

How to Hide Your IP Address in Safari

Apple includes a native privacy protocol within iOS designed to actively intercept and scramble this identifying information before it reaches third-party trackers.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down the main list until you locate the Safari settings menu and tap on it.
3. Scroll down to the section titled Privacy & Security.
4. Locate the option labelled Hide IP Address and tap on it.
5. You will be presented with a new menu. To ensure maximum protection, select the option labelled From Trackers.

Once activated, iOS will dynamically route your Safari traffic through Apple’s privacy proxy servers specifically when it detects a known tracking script or advertising network. The tracker will only see the generic IP address of the Apple proxy server, completely shielding your true location and identity, while allowing the actual website you are visiting to load normally.
