How to Disable In-App Ratings and Reviews on iPhone

The Nagging 5-Star Prompts

One of the most frustrating experiences on a modern smartphone is being interrupted while using an application. You are in the middle of editing a photo, playing a fast-paced game, or checking your bank balance, and suddenly the entire screen greys out. A massive Apple-designed pop-up appears, begging you to “Rate this app 5 stars in the App Store!” Developers use these aggressive prompts because high ratings manipulate the App Store algorithm, pushing their software to the top of the search charts. While Apple technically limits how often a single app can display this prompt, having dozens of apps installed means you are constantly bombarded by these interruptions. If you never intend to review apps, you should disable this system entirely.

How to Turn Off Rating Prompts Globally

Apple built a master switch into iOS that allows you to block these requests across every single application simultaneously.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down the main list until you find App Store. Tap it.
  3. Scroll down the App Store settings page until you see the section labeled “In-App Ratings & Reviews.”
  4. You will see a toggle switch next to In-App Ratings & Reviews.
  5. Tap the switch to turn it Off (the green background will disappear).

A Peaceful Experience

The change takes effect instantly. The master switch operates at the operating system level, meaning it physically blocks the developers’ code from triggering the pop-up. From now on, you will be able to play games, edit documents, and navigate your iPhone in complete peace. If you ever genuinely love an application and want to support the developer, you can still manually open the App Store, search for their app, and leave a written review at your own convenience.
