The Security Bypass Vector
By default, the iOS Lock Screen features two distinct shortcuts at the bottom of the display: a flashlight button and a camera button. Furthermore, swiping left across the Lock Screen will also instantly launch the camera interface. Apple implemented this to ensure you never miss a fleeting photographic moment. However, this means that anyone who picks up your locked iPhone can immediately open the camera, take hundreds of photos, and completely fill your storage without ever needing your passcode or Face ID.
How to Disable Camera Access on the Lock Screen
You cannot simply delete the camera button from the Lock Screen settings. You must utilize Apple’s Screen Time restriction protocols to forcefully sever the camera’s integration with the lock interface.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on Screen Time.
3. Tap on Content & Privacy Restrictions.
4. At the top of the screen, tap the master toggle switch for Content & Privacy Restrictions to turn it On.
5. Tap on Allowed Apps.
6. Locate the toggle switch for Camera and switch it to the Off position.
This action implements a severe, system-wide restriction. When you lock your iPhone and wake the screen, the Camera icon in the bottom corner will be completely greyed out and unresponsive, and swiping left will do absolutely nothing. Note: This restriction also entirely removes the Camera app from your Home Screen. If you need to take a photo, you must return to the Screen Time menu and toggle the restriction back off.
