How to Change the Homepage in Google Chrome

The Startup Optimization Vector

By default, launching Google Chrome presents you with a sterile, empty search page containing only the Google logo and a few frequently visited icons. If your daily workflow requires you to immediately access a corporate intranet portal, a specific news dashboard, or a complex project management tool (like Jira or Trello) the second you open your browser, you must override this default behavior. You must mathematically instruct the rendering engine to automatically fetch and display your preferred payload upon initialization.

How to Change the Homepage

Chrome utilizes a highly specific settings matrix to manage startup behavior, differentiating between the “Home Button” and the actual “On Startup” action.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the absolute top-right corner of the window.
3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
4. The ‘On Startup’ Configuration (The True Homepage):
* Look at the left-hand navigation sidebar and click on On startup.
* You will see three distinct radio buttons. Select the third option: Open a specific page or set of pages.
* Click the text link labelled Add a new page.
* A small dialogue box will appear. Type or paste the exact URL of your desired startup destination (e.g., `https://www.nytimes.com`) into the field and click Add.
5. The ‘Home Button’ Configuration (Optional but Recommended):
* If you also want a physical button on your toolbar to return you to this page at any time, navigate back to the left sidebar and click Appearance.
* Locate the toggle switch labelled Show Home button and turn it On.
* Beneath the toggle, a URL field will appear. Type your desired URL (e.g., `https://www.nytimes.com`) into this field to bind the action to the new button.

The modification is permanent. Close the entire Chrome application and relaunch it. The browser will instantly bypass the default Google search page and execute a direct connection to your newly specified destination.
