How to Block Pop-ups in Google Chrome

The Intrusion Suppression Vector

Malicious web developers frequently utilize aggressive JavaScript commands to forcefully open dozens of new browser windows (pop-ups) the moment you click a link on their site. These pop-ups are designed to overwhelm your screen with deceptive advertisements, fake virus warnings, or crypto-mining scripts. To maintain a secure and focused browsing environment, you must instruct the Google Chrome rendering engine to actively intercept and instantly terminate these unauthorized window generation requests.

How to Block Pop-ups

Google Chrome features a highly effective, built-in suppression protocol located deep within the Site Settings matrix.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the extreme top-right corner of the window.
3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
4. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Privacy and security.
5. In the main pane, click on Site settings.
6. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this menu until you reach the “Content” section.
7. Click on Pop-ups and redirects.
8. The Master Toggle: At the top of this page, you will see a primary behavioral toggle. You must ensure the option labelled “Don’t allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects” is selected (the radio button should be filled in).
9. The Surgical Exception (Critical): While the global block is essential, some legitimate websites (like banking portals or university login pages) use pop-ups for secure authentication. If you block them globally, you cannot log in.
* Look for the section labelled Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects.
* Click the Add button next to this section.
* Type the exact URL of your bank (e.g., `https://www.chase.com`) and click Add. This creates a highly specific bypass tunnel exclusively for that safe domain.
