The Boot Interruption Vector
Windows 11 features a visually rich Lock Screen that appears immediately after the computer boots up or wakes from sleep. While it provides beautiful background images and a clock, it serves no actual security purpose on a desktop computer; it acts merely as an extra, unnecessary layer that must be swiped away or clicked before you can finally access the actual password login screen. For productivity-focused users, this creates a frustrating delay every time the machine is powered on.
How to Disable the Lock Screen
You can bypass this initial screen entirely by modifying a specific entry within the Windows Registry Editor.
1. Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue box.
2. Type regedit and press Enter (click Yes if prompted by User Account Control).
3. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path using the left-hand sidebar: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows.
4. Right-click the Windows folder, select New, and then choose Key. Name this new key Personalization.
5. Click on your newly created Personalization key. In the right-hand pane, right-click any empty space, select New, and choose DWORD (32-bit) Value.
6. Name this new value NoLockScreen and press Enter.
7. Double-click NoLockScreen and change its Value data from 0 to 1, then click OK.
8. Restart your computer.
Windows 11 will now boot directly to the password or PIN login screen, completely skipping the graphical lock screen layer.
