The Monetized Telemetry
Windows 11 constantly monitors your system through diagnostic telemetry. Beyond simply checking for crashes, Microsoft uses a feature called “Tailored experiences” to weaponize this telemetry against you. When this feature is active, Microsoft’s cloud servers analyze your diagnostic data to build a profile of your hardware and software usage. They then use this profile to push hyper-targeted advertisements, personalized tips, and specific app recommendations directly onto your Lock Screen, Start Menu, and within the Windows Tips app. To stop Microsoft from monetizing your diagnostics, you must disable this bridge.
How to Disable Tailored Experiences
You can permanently sever the connection between your system telemetry and Microsoft’s advertising engine via the Privacy settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
- Under the “Windows permissions” section, click on Diagnostics & feedback.
- Scroll down and locate the section labeled Tailored experiences. Click to expand it.
- Toggle the switch labeled “Let Microsoft use your diagnostic data, excluding info about websites you browse, to offer personalized tips, ads, and recommendations” to the Off position.
A Neutral OS
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely sever the internal bridge connecting your local telemetry logs to the user interface recommendation engine. While the operating system may still send basic health data to Microsoft, the servers are now strictly barred from analyzing that data to serve you targeted content. Any native tips or suggestions you see moving forward will be completely generic and mathematically disconnected from your personal hardware profile, guaranteeing a cleaner desktop.
