How to Disable Location Tracking Prompts in Google Chrome

The Constant Interruption

Modern websites frequently request access to your physical GPS location to serve localized content (such as a retail store asking to find the closest branch). By default, Google Chrome handles this by halting the page load and throwing a small pop-up prompt under the address bar asking, “Allow this site to know your location?” If you browse the web heavily, these constant prompts become incredibly annoying, completely breaking your workflow. If you prefer strict privacy and have absolutely no intention of ever sharing your physical location with a random website, you must globally block the prompts.

How to Turn Off Location Prompts

You can force Chrome to automatically deny all location requests via the Site Settings.

  1. Open the Google Chrome desktop browser.
  2. Click the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top right corner and select Settings.
  3. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy and security.
  4. In the main window, click on Site settings.
  5. Under the “Permissions” section, click on Location.
  6. Under the “Default behavior” heading, click the radio button next to “Don’t allow sites to see your location.”

Silent Rejections

The change is instantaneous. Google Chrome will completely shut down the location prompt engine. The next time a website attempts to ask for your physical location, the browser will silently and automatically deny the request in the background. You will never see the pop-up prompt again, ensuring an uninterrupted and entirely private browsing experience.
