How to Disable Control Center Within Apps on iPhone

The Accidental Swipe

Control Center on the iPhone provides instant access to your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and screen brightness settings. By default, you can trigger this menu by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen, regardless of what you are currently doing on the phone. While convenient, this global shortcut is highly problematic if you are playing a fast-paced mobile game, drawing with your finger, or reading an interactive map. If your finger brushes the top corner of the screen, the entire game pauses, and the massive Control Center interface violently drops down over your content. You must disable the shortcut while inside applications.

How to Turn Off Control Center in Apps

You can force Control Center to only trigger from the Home Screen or Lock Screen via the Control Center settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down the main list and tap on Control Center.
  3. Locate the toggle switch labeled Access Within Apps.
  4. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Locked Interface

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will immediately sever the swipe-down gesture while any application is open on your screen. You can aggressively swipe, drag, and draw across the top right corner of your games or productivity apps without ever accidentally triggering the system menu. To access your Wi-Fi toggles, you must now explicitly minimize the app and return to the Home Screen first.
