The Zombie Bloatware
Windows 11 comes pre-installed with numerous “sponsored” applications (like TikTok, Instagram, or various casual games) depending on your PC manufacturer. Most users immediately right-click and uninstall these apps to reclaim hard drive space and declutter the Start menu. However, many users report a frustrating phenomenon: after a major Windows Update or a system reboot, these exact same applications mysteriously reappear in the Start menu. This occurs because Windows 11 uses a provisioning package system that automatically reinstalls default apps for new users, or forcefully restores them during feature updates if the registry isn’t properly locked.
Blocking the Provisioning Process
To ensure deleted apps stay dead and stop Windows 11 from automatically reinstalling removed bloatware, you must modify the registry to block the “Content Delivery Manager.”
Press the Windows Key, type regedit, and press Enter (allow admin privileges). Navigate through the left-hand folders to this exact path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager. Look at the right-hand panel. You need to find (or create) a DWORD (32-bit) Value named SilentInstalledAppsEnabled. If it doesn’t exist, right-click the empty space, select New > DWORD, and name it exactly that. Double-click SilentInstalledAppsEnabled and ensure the “Value data” is set to 0 (zero). This specifically tells Windows to stop silently downloading and installing suggested applications in the background without your explicit permission.
