How to Stop Windows 11 from Automatically Displaying Tips and Tricks on the Lock Screen

The Cluttered Welcome Screen

Windows 11 utilizes the “Windows Spotlight” feature on the lock screen, which downloads high-quality background images daily from Bing. While visually pleasing, Microsoft frequently uses this space to inject “fun facts,” tips, tricks, and sometimes thinly veiled advertisements for other Microsoft products (like Edge or OneDrive). These text overlays clutter the beautiful photography and can be frustrating for users who simply want a clean, minimalist lock screen interface without constant interruptions or suggestions from the operating system.

Silencing the Lock Screen Tips

To remove these text overlays, you must delve into the personalization settings and explicitly disable the tips and tricks feature. This allows you to keep the rotating background images while eliminating the intrusive text.

Press the Windows Key and click the gear icon to launch the Settings app. In the left-hand navigation pane, select Personalization. Next, click on Lock screen in the main window. Look at the dropdown menu labelled “Personalize your lock screen.” If this is set to “Windows spotlight,” you cannot disable the tips. You must first change this dropdown to either Picture or Slideshow. Once you have made that change, a new checkbox will appear immediately below it, labelled Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen. Click to completely uncheck this box. Your lock screen will now display your chosen image or slideshow cleanly, entirely free of Microsoft’s automated suggestions.
