How to Disable Hardware Acceleration in Google Chrome

Hardware acceleration allows Chrome to pass demanding graphical tasks to your computer’s GPU. However, on older or incompatible graphics cards, this can cause Chrome to freeze, display black screens, or lag.

How to Disable Hardware Acceleration

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner and select Settings.
3. In the left sidebar, click on System (you may need to expand the Advanced menu).
4. Toggle off the switch for “Use hardware acceleration when available”.
5. Click the Relaunch button that appears to apply the changes.
