When you sign in to Windows 11, the login screen displays a generic silhouette icon above your name. This same icon appears in your Start menu and Settings app. Personalizing your user account picture is a simple way to make your PC feel more like your own, and it is especially helpful if multiple people share the same computer.
You can choose to take a brand new picture using your webcam, or you can upload an existing photo, illustration, or logo from your hard drive.

How to Change Your Account Picture
All account personalization is handled through the Windows 11 Settings app.
- Click the Start button on your taskbar and click the Settings gear icon (or press
Windows + Ion your keyboard). - In the left sidebar of the Settings app, click on Accounts.
- Under the “Account settings” section, click on Your info.
- Look for the section titled “Adjust your photo.” Here, you have two options:
- Take a photo: Click the Open camera button to launch the Windows Camera app. You can take a new selfie right now using your PC’s webcam.
- Choose a file: Click the Browse files button to open a File Explorer window. Navigate to the folder where your desired image is saved, select it, and click Choose picture.
Windows will instantly update your profile picture. It will automatically crop the image into a circle, so try to choose a photo where the main subject is centered.
How to Switch Between Previous Pictures
If you change your picture multiple times, Windows 11 will remember your last three images and display them as small circles next to your current profile picture.
- To switch back to an older picture, simply click on one of the smaller thumbnail circles. It will instantly become your active account picture again.
Note: If you use a Microsoft Account to sign in to Windows, changing your picture here will also change your profile picture across all Microsoft services, including Outlook, Office 365, and Xbox.
