How to Completely Disable ‘Site Engagement’ via Group Policy in Microsoft Edge

The Site Engagement feature in Microsoft Edge tracks how often and how intensely a user interacts with specific websites. This data is used to prioritize resources and background processing for frequently visited sites. However, in strict enterprise environments, administrators may want to disable this telemetry-like tracking. This guide explains how to completely disable Site Engagement via Group Policy.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have administrative privileges and the latest Microsoft Edge Administrative Templates installed in your Group Policy Central Store.

Disable Site Engagement

Open the Group Policy Editor

Press the Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to Edge Policies

In the left pane, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge.

Modify the Site Engagement Policy

Locate the policy named Enable Site Engagement. Double-click it.

Disable the Feature

Set the policy state to Disabled. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Apply the Policy

Open an elevated Command Prompt and run gpupdate /force to ensure the policy is applied immediately across the system.

Verify the Configuration

Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to edge://policy. Verify that the SiteEngagementEnabled policy is listed and its value is set to false. This confirms that the browser will no longer track site engagement scores.
