There are few things more frustrating than turning on your computer in a rush to start working, only to be blocked by a massive, full-screen Windows 11 prompt declaring: “Let’s finish setting up your PC.”
This aggressive pop-up usually occurs after a major Windows Update. Instead of simply loading your desktop, Microsoft uses this full-screen takeover to heavily encourage you to sign up for a Microsoft 365 subscription, link your Android phone, or switch your default browser back to Microsoft Edge. If you are already happy with how your PC is configured, you can permanently disable this nagging screen.
How to Disable the “Let’s finish setting up” Screen
You can turn off this post-update nag screen directly from the Windows 11 Settings app.
- Click the Start button and select the Settings gear icon (or press Windows Key + I on your keyboard).
- In the left-hand navigation menu, click on System.
- Scroll down the main list of System settings and click on Notifications.
- Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the Notifications page.
- Click to expand the section named Additional settings.
- Look for the checkbox labelled: Suggest ways to get the most out of Windows and finish setting up this device.
- Uncheck this box to disable the prompt.
While you are here, it is highly recommended to also uncheck the box immediately below it labelled “Get tips and suggestions when I use Windows” to further reduce unwanted Microsoft pop-ups.
Your changes are saved automatically. The next time Windows 11 installs a cumulative update, it will boot directly and instantly to your desktop, completely skipping the promotional setup wizard.
