The Vanishing Pointer
Windows 11 includes a feature designed to minimize distractions while you are actively writing. By default, the moment you begin typing on your physical keyboard in a word processor, web browser, or even the Start Menu search bar, the mouse cursor completely vanishes from the screen. It remains hidden until you move the physical mouse or touch the trackpad again. While many users appreciate this clean interface, others find it incredibly disorienting, especially if they are performing complex text editing tasks where they need to frequently switch between typing and clicking specific characters.
Keeping the Cursor Visible
To maintain visual tracking and stop Windows 11 from automatically hiding your mouse cursor while you type, you must adjust the legacy Mouse Properties settings.
Press the Windows Key, type Mouse pointer style (or just “Mouse”), and press Enter to open the Settings app. However, the setting we need isn’t in this modern menu. Scroll down and click on Additional mouse settings to open the old-style “Mouse Properties” dialogue box. In this new window, click on the Pointer Options tab at the top. Look near the bottom of this tab for a section labelled “Visibility.” There is a checkbox explicitly labelled Hide pointer while typing. Uncheck this box. Click Apply, then click OK. From now on, your mouse cursor will remain firmly planted on your screen, exactly where you left it, even when you are rapidly typing on the keyboard.
