Windows 11 includes a powerful accessibility tool called Magnifier, which allows users to zoom in on specific parts of their screen. The default keyboard shortcut to activate it is pressing the Windows Key and the Plus (+) key simultaneously. While incredibly useful for the visually impaired, this shortcut is frustratingly easy to trigger by accident.
If you are attempting to use the Windows Key + equals/plus combination for a different macro, or simply have large hands, accidentally activating Magnifier instantly throws your entire display into a disorienting, zoomed-in view. You can disable this specific keyboard shortcut to prevent accidental zooms while leaving the Magnifier app available in the Start Menu.
How to Turn Off the Magnifier Shortcut in Windows 11
You can untether the Win+Plus shortcut directly from the Accessibility settings menu.
- Click the Start button and select the Settings gear icon (or press Windows Key + I).
- In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Accessibility.
- In the main window on the right, under the “Vision” section, click on Magnifier.
- Look near the top of the page for the master toggle switch labelled Magnifier. Do not turn this off; instead, look slightly below it for a checkbox.
- You will see a setting labelled Turn on Magnifier before sign-in and one beneath it. In some versions of Windows 11, the shortcut toggle is hidden in advanced settings.
- Alternatively, to completely kill the shortcut, you must use the Registry Editor. Press Win+R, type
regedit, and press Enter. - Navigate to:

0. (Note: A more reliable method is using Microsoft PowerToys to remap the Win+Plus key combination to “Undefined”).
Because Microsoft fiercely protects accessibility shortcuts, utilizing Microsoft PowerToys (available free from the Microsoft Store) to intercept and delete the Win+Plus key command is the most robust way to ensure Magnifier never launches accidentally again.
