The Loud Distraction
The Microsoft Store in Windows 10 is designed to showcase apps and games as dynamically as possible. By default, when you click on a store page for a popular game or application, the Store will immediately start auto-playing the promotional video trailer embedded at the top of the page.
While this is great for marketing, it is incredibly annoying if you are browsing the store in a quiet office environment or while listening to your own music. The sudden blast of audio and the visual distraction can disrupt your workflow, and the background streaming unnecessarily consumes bandwidth on metered connections. You can disable this auto-play behavior completely.
How to Stop Microsoft Store Video Auto-Play
You can turn off automatic video playback directly within the Microsoft Store app settings.
- Click the Start button and open the Microsoft Store app.
- Look in the top right corner of the Store window for your Profile picture (or a generic user icon next to the search bar). Click it.
- Select App settings from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll down the settings page until you find the section labelled Video Autoplay.
- Toggle the switch to the Off position.
Once disabled, when you navigate to a game or app page, the promotional video will display a static thumbnail instead. It will only begin playing—and using your bandwidth and audio—when you explicitly click the Play button.
