How to Change the Mouse Pointer Color in Windows 11

For decades, the standard Windows mouse pointer has been a plain white arrow with a black outline. While this is familiar, it is not always the easiest thing to see, especially if you are visually impaired, use a very large high-resolution monitor, or simply prefer a darker aesthetic. Windows 11 includes excellent accessibility features that allow you to easily change the color of your mouse pointer to black, inverted, or any custom bright color you choose.

How to Customize the Mouse Pointer

All mouse pointer appearance settings are handled through the Windows 11 Settings app, specifically within the Accessibility section.

1. Click the Start button on your taskbar and select the Settings gear icon. (Alternatively, press Windows Key + I on your keyboard).
2. In the left-hand menu pane of the Settings window, click on Accessibility.
3. Under the “Vision” section on the right, click on Mouse pointer and touch.
4. You will see a section titled “Mouse pointer style” with four distinct options:
   • White: The default white pointer with a black outline.
   • Black: A solid black pointer with a white outline (excellent for reading black text on white backgrounds).
   • Inverted: A dynamic pointer that changes color depending on what it is hovering over. It turns black over white areas and white over dark areas, ensuring it is always visible.
   • Custom: A colorful pointer that you can personalize.
5. Click the Custom option (the fourth icon, which usually defaults to neon green or pink).

Choosing a Custom Color

If you selected the “Custom” pointer style, a new section of color options will appear directly below it.

1. Windows provides a row of “Recommended colors,” including bright yellow, lime green, cyan, pink, and purple. Click any of these to instantly change your pointer.
2. If you want a specific color not listed, click the Choose another color button (it has a plus sign icon).
3. A color picker window will open. Click and drag the circle to pick your exact desired hue, and use the slider below to adjust the brightness.
4. Click Done. Your pointer will immediately update to your custom color.

Adjusting Pointer Size

While you are on this screen, you can also make your brightly colored pointer larger so it is even easier to find on the screen.

• Directly below the pointer style options, find the Size slider.
• Click and drag the slider to the right. The pointer will dynamically increase in size as you move the slider, from a standard size ‘1’ all the way up to a massive size ’15’.
