Windows 11 automatically creates System Restore points before major updates or driver installations. While this is a crucial safety net, it can consume a massive amount of hard drive space over time.
How to Stop Automatic Restore Points
- Press the Windows key and type Create a restore point. Open it.
- In the System Protection tab, select your main drive (usually C:) and click Configure.
- Select Disable system protection.
- Click Apply. Note that this will also delete all existing restore points, freeing up disk space but removing your ability to roll back the system.
