The Nagging Welcome Screen
Windows 10 occasionally interrupts your normal boot process to display a full-screen prompt titled “Let’s finish setting up your device” or “Get even more out of Windows.” This screen usually appears after a major feature update and aggressively prompts you to link your Android phone, set up Windows Hello, sign up for a Microsoft 365 trial, or switch your default browser to Microsoft Edge.
For users who have already explicitly chosen not to use these services, being forced to click “Skip for now” every few months is an infuriating disruption to their workflow. You can completely disable this recurring “Welcome Experience” so your computer always boots directly to your desktop.
How to Stop the Post-Update Welcome Screen
You can turn off this full-screen prompt within the Windows Settings app.
- Click the Start button and select the gear icon to open Settings (or press
Windows Key + i). - Click on System.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Notifications & actions.
- Scroll down the main page and look for a series of checkboxes under the “Notifications” heading.
- Find the checkbox labelled: “Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows.”
- Uncheck this box.
- While you are there, you may also want to uncheck “Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested.”
Once these options are disabled, Windows 10 will respect your existing configuration choices and will no longer hijack your screen with promotional setup prompts after future system updates.
