The Interface Bloat Vector
Windows 11 features a dedicated Widgets Board, heavily integrated into the Taskbar. By default, it displays dynamic weather conditions and aggressively pushes trending news, celebrity gossip, and financial data pulled directly from Microsoft’s MSN network. Hovering your mouse near the left side of the screen frequently triggers the board to slide open accidentally, consuming system memory and completely interrupting your workflow with unsolicited tabloid content.
How to Disable the Widgets Board
You can instruct Windows 11 to completely unhook the Widgets architecture from your Taskbar, preventing accidental activation and reclaiming your screen space.
1. Right-click anywhere on the empty space of your Taskbar.
2. Select Taskbar settings from the context menu.
3. The Settings application will open directly to the Taskbar personalization menu.
4. Look at the top section titled Taskbar items.
5. Locate the toggle switch labelled Widgets.
6. Click the toggle to switch it to the Off position.
The weather icon and the associated Widgets Board will instantly vanish from your Taskbar. You can now move your mouse freely across the bottom-left corner of your screen without fear of accidentally triggering the news feed.
