The Intrusive Pop-ups
Windows 11 includes a highly aggressive productivity feature called “Suggested Actions.” By default, the operating system’s clipboard engine actively monitors the raw text you highlight and copy. If you highlight a string of text that looks like a date (e.g., “October 12th at 4 PM”) or a phone number, Windows instantly intercepts the copy command and throws a large, intrusive pop-up menu across your screen suggesting you create an event in the Outlook Calendar or make a call using Teams. If you are a developer copying code, or simply doing data entry, these constant pop-ups completely shatter your workflow. You must disable the clipboard monitor.
How to Turn Off Suggested Actions
You can permanently strip the AI monitoring from your clipboard via the Clipboard settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on System.
- In the main window, scroll down and click on Clipboard.
- Locate the master toggle switch labeled “Suggested actions.”
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
A Dumb Clipboard
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background service responsible for analyzing your copied text. The operating system’s clipboard is returned to its raw, “dumb” state. You can now highlight and copy massive blocks of text containing hundreds of dates and phone numbers, and Windows will simply copy the data silently, never again interrupting your workflow with unsolicited calendar or calling suggestions.
