The Clipboard Interruption
Windows 11 introduced a feature called “Suggested Actions” designed to anticipate your next move. When you highlight and copy a specific type of text to your clipboard—such as a phone number or a date—Windows intercepts the action and throws a small popup menu near your cursor. It might suggest opening Microsoft Teams to call the number or opening the Calendar app to create an event. While intended to save time, this feature is highly disruptive if you are simply copying data between spreadsheets or transferring a phone number into an email, as the popup visually obscures the text you are working with.
Silencing the Suggestions
To keep your clipboard clean and stop Windows 11 from automatically interrupting your workflow with unsolicited app suggestions every time you copy text, you must disable the feature in the system settings.
Press the Windows Key and click the gear icon to open the Settings app. In the left-hand navigation pane, click on System. Scroll down the right-hand panel and select Clipboard. In the Clipboard settings menu, look for the option labelled Suggested actions (the exact wording may read “Show suggested actions when copying a date, time, or phone number”). Next to this description is a toggle switch. Click the toggle to turn it Off. The change takes effect immediately. You can now highlight, copy (`Ctrl+C`), and paste data as rapidly as you like without any intrusive popups attempting to hijack your workflow.
