How to Disable the “Show Desktop” Button in Windows 11

The Hidden Pixel

At the absolute farthest right edge of the Windows 11 taskbar—past the clock, past the notification bell, completely hidden from plain view—exists a microscopic, invisible button called “Show Desktop.” If you accidentally throw your mouse cursor too far to the right and click your mouse, every single open window on your computer will violently minimize to the taskbar, exposing your bare desktop wallpaper. If you run multiple monitors or frequently click the scroll bar on right-aligned applications, you will constantly trigger this invisible button by accident, completely ruining your workflow. You must permanently disable the hot corner.

How to Turn Off the Show Desktop Button

You can permanently strip the right-click functionality from the corner of the taskbar via the Personalization settings.

  1. Right-click anywhere on an empty space on your Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
  2. In the Settings window that opens, scroll down to the bottom and click on Taskbar behaviors to expand the hidden menu.
  3. Locate the specific checkbox labeled “Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop.”
  4. Uncheck the box.

A Dead Corner

The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background listener attached to that specific cluster of pixels. You can now violently throw your mouse cursor into the bottom-right corner of your monitor and click as aggressively as you want. The operating system will completely ignore the input, ensuring your active windows remain exactly where you placed them.
