The Notification Barrage
Windows 11 features a highly aggressive global notification system. By default, any installed application—from your email client to a random video game launcher—can fire a massive, sliding banner into the bottom-right corner of your screen, accompanied by a loud chime. If you are presenting a slide deck to a client, recording a screen-capture tutorial, or simply trying to focus on writing a complex document, these constantly sliding banners are a massive distraction. You must completely sever the operating system’s ability to interrupt you.
How to Turn Off Notifications Globally
You can permanently lock the notification center into a state of absolute silence via the System settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on System.
- In the main window, click on Notifications.
- At the absolute top of the screen, locate the master toggle switch simply labeled “Notifications.”
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
- Optional: Directly below it, toggle “Do not disturb” to the On position to guarantee absolutely zero banners slide onto your screen.
A Silent Desktop
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background notification daemon. The operating system will instantly revoke the banner privileges for every single application currently installed on your hard drive. No application will be able to slide a visual banner onto your screen or trigger an audio chime. Your incoming emails and messages will still safely queue up inside their respective applications, waiting for you to check them manually, but your desktop environment will remain completely sterile and focused.
