If you play PC games, use complex Adobe software, or simply type very quickly, you have likely triggered the most annoying feature in Windows: Sticky Keys. Pressing the Shift key five times in a row instantly pauses whatever you are doing, minimizes your game, and plays a loud beeping sound to ask if you want to enable accessibility options. Thankfully, you can permanently disable this specific shortcut trigger in Windows 11.
How to Disable the Shift Key Trigger
You can turn off this warning without disabling the actual Sticky Keys accessibility feature, allowing you to use your keyboard normally without fear of interruption.
- Open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I on your keyboard.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Accessibility.
- Scroll down to the “Interaction” section and click on Keyboard.
- Under the “Sticky, Filter, and Toggle keys” section, look for Sticky keys.
- Click anywhere on the Sticky keys panel to open its advanced settings menu (do not just click the On/Off toggle switch).
- Look for the option labelled Keyboard shortcut for Sticky keys.
- Click the toggle switch to turn this specific shortcut Off.
Once this switch is disabled, you can rapidly press the Shift key as many times as you want while gaming or working, and the intrusive Sticky Keys popup will never interrupt your screen again.
