How to Change the Text Size in Windows 11

If you have recently purchased a high-resolution 4K monitor, or if you simply struggle to read the default small text across the operating system, Windows 11 allows you to increase the size of the text globally. This scales up the text in your menus, settings, and apps without changing the overall resolution of your display.

How to Increase the Text Size

You can adjust the global text size slider directly from the Accessibility settings.

  • Press the Windows Key + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
  • In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Accessibility.
  • Under the “Vision” section at the top of the right pane, click on Text size.
  • You will see a slider labelled “Text size” alongside a preview window showing “Text size preview”.
  • Click and drag the slider to the right to increase the text size. The preview box will update in real-time to show you how large the text will be.
  • Once you have found a comfortable size (the default is 100%, and you can scale up to 225%), click the Apply button.

Your screen will briefly flash blue with a “Please wait” message as Windows scales all the text across the operating system to your new preferred size.

Text Size vs. Display Scaling

It is important to note the difference between Text Size and Display Scaling. The method above only changes the size of the font. If you find that icons, windows, and buttons are also too small to click on comfortably, you should use Display Scaling instead.

To scale everything (text, apps, and icons), go to Settings > System > Display, and change the percentage in the Scale dropdown menu.
