How to Stop Windows 11 from Automatically Hiding the Taskbar

The Disappearing Interface

To maximize screen real estate, Windows 11 includes a feature that automatically hides the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. When this feature is active, the taskbar slides down and disappears completely, only popping back up when you slam your mouse cursor against the very bottom edge of your monitor. While this looks incredibly clean and modern, many users find it deeply frustrating. It removes your ability to glance down to check the time, see your network status, or instantly click on an open application without having to perform a precise mouse swipe first.

How to Pin the Taskbar Permanently

You can easily disable the auto-hide feature, forcing the taskbar to remain permanently anchored and visible at the bottom of your screen at all times.

1. Right-click on any empty, blank space on the taskbar itself.

2. Select Taskbar settings from the small context menu that appears. (Alternatively, open the Settings app, go to Personalisation, and click on Taskbar).

3. Scroll down the settings page until you reach the Taskbar behaviours section.

4. Click on “Taskbar behaviours” to expand the dropdown menu.

5. Look for the checkbox labelled Automatically hide the taskbar.

6. Untick this checkbox.

Optimising a Pinned Taskbar

The moment you untick the box, your taskbar will snap back into place permanently. Because it is no longer hiding, you may want to clean it up so it does not distract you while you work. In the same “Taskbar settings” window, scroll to the top and look at the “Taskbar items” section. Here, you can toggle off useless buttons like the Widgets board, the Chat icon, or the Task View button, ensuring your permanently visible taskbar only contains the applications you actually care about.
