Reading a lengthy article, researching a recipe, or reviewing shopping items on your desktop computer often needs to continue while you commute on your smartphone or switch to a portable laptop. Rather than emailing web links to yourself, copying URLs into messaging apps, or bookmarking temporary pages, Microsoft Edge features a native “Send to your devices” capability. With a single click or tap, you can push any open tab across your Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Android phone instantly.
Requirements for Cross-Device Tab Sharing
To transfer web pages seamlessly between your devices:
- Sign in to the same personal or work Microsoft Account on all your devices.
- Ensure Sync is enabled under Settings > Profiles > Sync (specifically the Open tabs toggle).
- Ensure Microsoft Edge is installed and updated on your mobile devices (available free on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store).
Method 1: Send Tabs from Desktop via the Address Bar (Fastest)
The desktop version of Edge provides a dedicated shortcut directly in the URL bar:
- Open the webpage you want to transfer in Microsoft Edge on your PC or Mac.
- Look at the far right end of the address bar for the Send this page icon (a laptop screen overlapping a mobile phone).
- Click the icon to open the flyout list of all your connected devices.
- Click the name of your target device (e.g., iPhone 15 or Work Laptop).
- Edge displays a brief confirmation banner: “Sending to [Device Name]…”.
- On your target device, a native push notification will arrive in seconds. Tapping the alert immediately launches Microsoft Edge and loads the webpage.
Method 2: Send Tabs via Right-Click Context Menu
You can also send links and tabs without even navigating to them:
- To send an active or background tab: Right-click the tab header along the top tab bar (or vertical tabs panel), hover over Send to your devices, and select your destination hardware.
- To send a link found on a webpage: Right-click any hyperlink on a website, hover over Send link to your devices, and choose your device.
How to Send Tabs from Mobile Edge Back to Your PC
When browsing on your phone and you want to view the site on your larger desktop monitor:
- Open the webpage in the Microsoft Edge mobile app.
- Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow on iOS, or three-dots menu on Android).
- Select Send to devices.
- Tap your computer’s name. A Windows banner notification will pop up on your PC desktop asking to open the page.
