Microsoft Edge includes a suite of built-in shopping features designed to help you find coupon codes, compare prices across different retailers, and track price histories while you browse e-commerce websites. While some users appreciate the potential savings, these features frequently generate intrusive pop-ups, inject a blue shopping tag icon into your address bar, and require Microsoft to constantly scan the URLs you are visiting. If you prefer a cleaner, more private browsing experience, you can disable these shopping features entirely.
How to Disable Microsoft Edge Shopping Features
Microsoft has grouped all of the e-commerce tools under a single toggle switch within the browser’s privacy settings, making it easy to deactivate them all at once.
- Open the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.
- Click the three-dot menu icon located in the top-right corner of the window.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy, search, and services.
- Scroll down the page until you locate the Services section at the very bottom.
- Find the option labelled Save time and money with Shopping in Microsoft Edge.
- Click the toggle switch to turn it to the Off position.
What Changes When Shopping is Disabled?
Once the toggle is flipped, the changes take effect immediately. You do not need to restart the browser. The following behaviours will instantly stop:
- The blue price tag icon will no longer appear in your address bar when viewing a product.
- Automatic coupon code pop-ups will no longer interrupt your checkout process.
- The price comparison sidebar will no longer suggest alternative retailers when you look at an item on Amazon or similar sites.
- Edge will stop sending the specific product URLs you browse to Microsoft’s shopping servers for analysis.
If you still wish to use coupon finders without relying on Microsoft’s built-in telemetry, you can install dedicated third-party extensions like Honey or RetailMeNot from the Edge Add-ons store, which give you more granular control over when and how your shopping data is processed.
