How to Change the Default Application for a File Type in Ubuntu

If your text files are opening in an IDE instead of a simple text editor, or your videos are launching in the wrong player, changing the default application in Ubuntu is straightforward.

How to Change Default Apps

1. Open the Settings application.
2. Scroll down the left sidebar and click on Default Applications.
3. Here you can change the defaults for Web, Mail, Calendar, Music, Video, and Photos.
4. For specific file types (like PDFs), right-click the file, select Properties, go to the Open With tab, select your preferred app, and click Set as default.
