Maintaining active audience engagement on YouTube between major video uploads is vital for channel growth and algorithmic reach. Relying solely on polished video productions can lead to long stretches of silence during editing phases. YouTube Community posts provide creators with a built-in social feed right on their channel page. Using text updates, interactive audience polls, image galleries, and teaser GIFs, creators can gather feedback, build anticipation for upcoming projects, and connect directly with their subscriber base.
Channel Eligibility and Access Requirements
Historically, access to the YouTube Community tab was restricted to channels with over 10,000 or 1,000 subscribers. Under modern YouTube Studio guidelines, Community posts are unlocked through Advanced Features verification:
- Channels can unlock Advanced Features immediately by completing video verification, submitting a valid government ID, or establishing 2 months of positive channel history.
- Once verified, the Community tab appears on your channel homepage on desktop, iOS, and Android within 48 hours.
- Audience-setting restrictions apply: channels whose audience is designated as Made for Kids do not have access to the Community tab, and comments are disabled on individual posts flagged for kids.
Types of Community Posts You Can Create
The Community composer supports multiple engagement formats tailored to specific creator needs:

- Image Galleries: Share up to 5 high-resolution images or animated GIFs in a single carousel post. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, and GIF (up to 16 MB each, ideal in 1:1 square aspect ratio).
- Video Highlights & Re-shares: Embed any public YouTube video directly into a post with customized commentary, perfect for promoting older evergreen catalogue videos.
- Quizzes: Post multiple-choice educational quiz questions with an immediate correct answer reveal and explanation prompt.
