Google Keep is designed to capture thoughts quickly, making it incredibly easy to accumulate hundreds of digital sticky notes. As you add more grocery lists, book recommendations, and random ideas, the most important notes—like your daily to-do list or an urgent phone number—get pushed further down the grid until they are buried at the bottom of the screen. To prevent important information from getting lost in the clutter, you can use the “Pin” feature to permanently stick essential notes to the top of your dashboard.
How to Pin a Note
Pinning a note elevates it above the standard chronological sorting system, creating a dedicated “Pinned” section at the very top of your Google Keep interface.
- Open Google Keep on your computer (via the web browser) or open the mobile app on your smartphone.
- Locate the specific note you want to prioritize (e.g., your “Weekly Goals” list).
- Hover your mouse cursor over the note. If you are on a smartphone, simply tap the note once to open it.
- Look for the small Pin icon (it looks like a classic pushpin). On a desktop, it appears in the top right corner of the note as you hover over it. On a smartphone, it appears at the very top of the screen when the note is open.
- Click or tap the Pin icon.
The icon will immediately turn black (or solid white in dark mode), and the note will instantly teleport to the top of your screen under a new header titled PINNED. All of your other standard, unpinned notes will be relegated to the OTHERS section below.
Managing Pinned Notes
You are not limited to a single pinned note; you can pin as many notes as you want. When you pin multiple items, Google Keep will organize them into a grid within that top “Pinned” section.
If you have several pinned notes and want them to appear in a specific order (for example, keeping your most urgent task in the top-left position), you can simply click and drag the notes within the Pinned section to rearrange their visual layout.
When you have completed a task or no longer need a note to be highly visible, you can easily unpin it. Hover over the pinned note and click the Pin icon again (or tap it inside the mobile app). The note will instantly drop out of the Pinned section and return to its correct chronological place down in the “Others” section, keeping your dashboard clean and focused.
