Google Keep is an incredibly fast and lightweight note-taking app, but without proper organisation, your workspace can quickly become a chaotic mess of text. Fortunately, Google Keep provides two powerful features to help you visually organise your thoughts: color coding and labels.
How to Color Code a Note
Color coding allows you to quickly distinguish between different types of notes at a glance (e.g., using red for urgent tasks and green for shopping lists).
- Open Google Keep in your web browser or mobile app.
- Create a new note or click on an existing one to open it.
- At the bottom of the note, click the Palette icon (Background options).
- Select a solid color or a background image to apply it instantly to the note.
How to Add Labels to a Note
Labels act like folders, allowing you to group related notes together. You can assign multiple labels to a single note.
- Open the note you want to categorise.
- Click the Three dots (More) icon at the bottom of the note.
- Select Add label from the dropdown menu.
- Type the name of a new label and hit Enter, or check the box next to an existing label.
Once you have created labels, they will appear in the left-hand sidebar of Google Keep. Clicking on a label will instantly filter your view to show only the notes associated with that specific category.
