When you are migrating to a modern Android device from a legacy mobile phone, critical contact data is often physically hardcoded onto the cellular SIM card’s internal flash memory. Because the Android OS relies on cloud-based nodes (Google Contacts) for syncing, it does not automatically index the physical SIM memory. To force the OS to mathematically extract these legacy records and permanently inject them into your master Google cloud database, you must deploy the SIM Import protocol.
Executing the Hardware Extraction Matrix
The Google Contacts application possesses a secure hardware bridge capable of reading the microscopic 64KB memory modules on standard SIM and nano-SIM cards. It copies the raw vCard data and converts it into a modern XML format for cloud synchronization.
- Ensure the physical SIM card containing the legacy data is securely inserted into the Android device’s SIM tray and recognized by the OS cellular modem.
- Open the native Google Contacts application.
- Look at the absolute bottom of the UI and tap the tab labeled Fix & manage (or Organize depending on your OS build).
- From the system matrix, tap the critical command labeled Import from SIM.
Deploying the Import Payload
- If you operate a dual-SIM device, a modal will spawn. Select the specific physical SIM slot (SIM 1 or SIM 2) containing the data payload and tap OK.
- The OS will execute a rapid geometric scan of the SIM memory and generate a temporary list of all extracted nodes.
- Look at the absolute top of the screen. You will see a “Save to” drop-down menu. CRITICAL: Ensure this is set to your primary Google Account (e.g., [email protected]). Do not save them to “Device”, or they will not synchronize to the cloud.
- By default, all imported contacts are highlighted. If you want to exclude specific nodes, tap them to uncheck the selection.
- Tap the Import button in the top right corner.
- The exact millisecond you execute this, the Contacts engine violently rips the selected data from the temporary SIM buffer and injects it directly into the master Google database. A confirmation banner will appear, and the payload will immediately begin backing up to the Google Cloud servers.
