The Cluttered History Page
When you press Ctrl+H (or Cmd+Y on Mac) to view your Google Chrome browsing history, you are no longer presented with a simple, chronological list of websites. Instead, Chrome now automatically groups your visited pages into thematic “Journeys.” If you were researching a vacation, Chrome bundles all flight, hotel, and restaurant websites together into a card. While this AI-driven grouping is intended to help you pick up where you left off, it makes the History page incredibly cluttered. If you just want to find a specific website you visited three hours ago, scrolling through massive grouped cards is much slower than scanning a clean, time-stamped list.
How to Disable Journeys in the History Menu
You can turn off this thematic grouping natively within the History settings, forcing Chrome to revert to the classic, chronological view.
1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the window.
3. Hover over History and click History from the slide-out menu (or simply press Ctrl+H).
4. In the left-hand sidebar of the History page, look for the option labelled Turn off Journeys.
5. Click it. The page will instantly refresh.
The massive grouped cards will disappear, replaced by the traditional, straightforward list of every website you visited, ordered exactly by the time you opened them.
How to Completely Disable the Feature via Flags
If you don’t even want Chrome wasting background processing power analyzing your history to build these groups, you can kill the feature at the core using Chrome Flags.
1. Type chrome://flags into your URL bar and press Enter.
2. In the search box at the top of the Flags page, type Journeys.
3. Locate the flag named History Journeys.
4. Click the dropdown menu next to it and change it from Default to Disabled.
5. Click the blue Relaunch button that appears at the bottom of the screen.
