When you upload a high-quality video to Google Drive, it may appear blurry when playing it back in the browser. This is because Google Drive compresses videos for web playback to save bandwidth, similar to YouTube.
How to Stop Compression
The good news is that Google Drive does not alter your original file. It only compresses the version you stream online.
- To view the video in its original, uncompressed quality, you cannot stream it in the browser.
- Right-click the video file in Google Drive.
- Select Download.
- Once downloaded to your computer, open it with a local media player like VLC or QuickTime. It will play in its full original resolution.
