How to Change the Default Font in Google Docs for All New Documents

If you hate the default Arial font in Google Docs, you don’t have to change it manually every time you create a new document. You can set a custom default font for all future files.

How to Change the Default Font

  1. Open a Google Doc and type some text.
  2. Highlight the text and change the font, size, and styling to your exact preference.
  3. With the text still highlighted, click Format > Paragraph styles > Normal text > Update ‘Normal text’ to match.
  4. Finally, click Format > Paragraph styles > Options > Save as my default styles.
